In general, you are eligible for Medicare coverage if you are:

  • 65 or older
  • under 65, receive Social Security benefits or meet criteria for certain disabilities

Eligibility for each part/plan type

Part/Plan You are eligible to enroll if you:
Medicare Part A
(hospital insurance)
  • 64 years and 9 months old; or
  • Under 65 but qualify due to a disability or other condition
  • Have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
Medicare Part B
(medical insurance)
  • 64 years and 9 months old; or
  • Under 65 but qualify due to a disability or other condition
  • Have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
Medicare Part C
(Medicare Advantage)
  • Enrolled in Part A and Part B
  • Live in the service area of the plan
  • Do not have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
Medicare Part D
(prescription drugs)
  • Enrolled in Part A or Part B
